Hitachi Koki is now Metabo HPT, New name same quality and performance!
Beginning in 2018, the North American branch of Hitachi Power Tools will now operate under the name Metabo HPT. This name change comes after a 2017 shift in ownership from Hitachi Ltd. to a partnership between leading global investment firm KKR and Koki Holdings America, Ltd. The new partnership has opted to expand beyond the limitations of the Hitachi Ltd. for the benefit of their customers.
Metabo HPT is not Metabo
Despite both being owned by the KKR and Hitachi Koki Co., Ltd partnership, Metabo HPT is not affiliated with Metabo, an existing company specializing in metalworking power tools. Metabo HPT will uphold the Hitachi legacy of trusted pneumatic and woodworking tools. These companies will not merge inventories or tool technologies. Batteries that fit a Metabo tool will not fit a Metabo HPT tool of the same voltage. While some technology may be shared on an internal level, these companies will largely exist and run independently of one another.
Aside from new ownership and a new name, the changes will be minimal. Tools will be renamed, but will otherwise remain the same. The SKU and UPC numbers for existing Hitachi Tools will also change as the company transitions these tools to their new Metabo HPT names.
What Stays The Same?
The reliable, quality Hitachi Power Tools you know and trust will remain the same — from their batteries and motors, to their replacement parts and color schemes. Hitachi Power Tools products and Metabo HPT products are interchangeable because they are one in the same. Manufacturing will continue to take place in the same factories and will continue to be staffed by the same employees. Tool service centers will remain active and product warranties will remain in effect.
